What Job Can Include the Interest of Writing, Dinosaurs, and Psychology?

This week’s question: What job can include the interest of writing, dinosaurs, and psychology?

It’s a popular topic on Reddit, so let’s dive in.

Journalism

You can be certain that journalists are interested in all things relating to psychology. Some even consider it their ‘beat’, so to speak. If you’re a fan of dinosaurs, you might end up working with scientists who study them, or for a company that creates dino-related products.

This is especially relevant since the field of psychology plays a huge role in how we perceive and understand the world around us. Did you know that even the way you process thoughts and feel about yourself is psychological? It’s true. If you have an interest in journalism, you can apply for a job in a newsroom as a reporter, editor, or producer. You might even end up covering mental health, cognitive science, or neuroscience. Maybe you’ll cover a story about how dinosaurs are helping to save the earth, too.

Fiction Writing

Literary agents are usually interested in all things literature, including psychology. If you’re a fan of science fiction or fantasy, you might find an opportunity to write stories for a living. As previously stated, some journalists are even ‘beat’ oriented toward psychology, so it’s not entirely out of the question that you could end up helping to write the story of a person’s life. However, for the sake of this article, let’s assume you want to go the traditional route and pursue fiction writing.

Stories about everyday people in extraordinary situations are popular, as are thrillers focused on psychology and other social sciences. If you’re a fast typer, you could consider applying for a job at a publishing house, where you’ll help to transform manuscripts into books. Even if you don’t have any experience, there are many literary agents out there who would love to hear from you. Don’t forget: writing is a very marketable skill, and many people consider it to be a form of therapy. It can also be a source of income, so if you want to see the world, you might have to do a little bit of writing to earn a living.

Research

If you have a deep interest in psychology, you might be able to go into research. At least, that’s what Dan Kindlon, founder and chief executive of a company called CognitionX, suggested in a recent interview with Business Insider. He said that while it’s always great to have an idea for a product or service that you can develop, “if you really want to make a difference, I would advise people to consider doing research.”

If you’re not interested in journalism, fiction writing, or research, you might be able to get a job in an administrative role. Just make sure that you learn how to use a computer, because these days everyone needs someone to help them navigate the online world.

There are many interesting jobs out there, but it’s important to find one that you’re passionate about. If you have an interest in any of the topics discussed here, you might be able to find a job that perfectly matches your skillset. Remember: every job has responsibilities that come with it, so make sure that you’re comfortable with what you’re signing up for. Good luck out there.
