How to Be a Creative Writer When You’re a Perfectionist

It is no secret that being a creative writer is hard. If you want to create something new and original, there are plenty of people who will tell you that you cannot do it. However, if you are a perfectionist, you know that you can, and you will find the means to make it happen. In this article, we will explore how you can be a creative writer when you are a perfectionist.

Be Brave

When you are following your heart and your gut instincts, you cannot go wrong, and that is what you should strive for. Creative writing is not for the faint of heart, and it certainly is not for the people who are afraid of making mistakes. Being bold will give you the chance to try new things and will allow you to discover your creative side.

A perfect example of this would be to take a class on fiction writing with an unknown teacher. At the end of the class, the teacher will ask you to submit a book proposal. Although you will be able to complete this project successfully, you will not be able to do it with ease. Following your heart and taking a risk will often lead you to failure, especially when you are looking for success. However, if you are able to push past your fears and and complete the project, this will allow you to grow as a person and to discover your creative side.

Know Your Craft

If you want to become a creative writer, it is important that you know your craft. Not only does this help you become great at writing, but it also helps you find your strengths and weaknesses as a writer. It is important to find what makes you different and to use this as your creative identity. This may mean that you are a plotters or a worriers, and knowing this can help you find the right class or mentor for you.

If you are a plotter, you may want to try out a different medium. While screenwriting may be a good fit for a plotter, novel-writing may be what you are looking for. Working on shorter pieces of fiction may also be what you need to do to find your creative voice. If you are a worrier, you may want to try out a class on character development or find a writing partner to share the burden of story-telling with.

Don’t Give Up

Anyone who is looking for success in any area of life will tell you that success does not come easily, and this is especially true if you want to be a creative writer. Just because someone else thinks that you cannot do something, this does not mean that you cannot do it. You will find a way, and with a little bit of luck and inspiration, you will succeed where others have failed.

As a creative writer, you have the chance to try new things and to be different from everyone else, and this is what you should embrace. If you want to be the best writer that you can be, then you have to take the time to find your voice and to grow as a person. Even if you feel like you cannot do it, you can always try. Sometimes, the best things come from the most unexpected places, and this is where your creativity will take you.
