How to Write a Chronology for an eBook

The eBook is popular because it can be used to store a lot of information in a relatively small space compared to other publishing formats. An eBook can be used to store thousands of words of text, images, and even music! As amazing as it sounds, all that content can fit inside a pocket-sized device! The Need For A Chronology

If you’re writing an eBook about history, you’ll need to know what happened beforehand in order to know what happened subsequently. For example, if you’re writing an eBook about Julius Caesar, you’ll need to know about Rome’s previous leader, the Caesar Augustus.

It’s important to keep in mind that a chronology is not the same thing as a timeline. A timeline is made up of events that actually happened, while a chronology is a list of events that are not necessarily tied to reality. For example, Julius Caesar was not actually born in March 44 B.C., as stated in the Roman chronology. In actuality, he was likely born in July, which would mean that his life actually began in July 63 B.C. However, the Roman chronology lists March 44 B.C. because that is when the emperor, Augustus, officially recognized him as Rome’s first king.

This is important because it means that the events on the Roman timeline are not necessarily tied to the historical people, places, and things it mentions. The same thing goes for other historical events that have been incorporated into traditional chronologies (like the French Revolution and the American Civil War).

What Makes Up An eBook Chronology?

The easiest way to write a good chronology for an eBook is to use an outlining tool. Outlining is a process where you develop each section of a book (usually chapter or scene) in advance. This makes revision much easier because you can focus on the individual elements of a scene or chapter instead of the entire structure of a book. It also helps you create more coherent narratives in your work. If you’ve ever read an epic novel like Game of Thrones or The Name of the Rose, you’ll understand what I mean.

It’s important to note that while you’re outlining your book, you don’t have to only use paper and a pen. You can use your phone, laptop, or any electronic device to write. As long as you have an electric outlet available, you can use a device to write. If you ever need a more portable way to write, you can always opt for a notebook and a pen.

Why Should You Outline Your Book?

While we’re on the subject of writing an eBook, let’s discuss why you should outline your book first. Writing a book without an outline is extremely difficult because you’ll never know what information the reader will need to know. It’s also extremely difficult to find the right rhythm to write a good novel without proper planning.

With an outline, you can create a detailed map of the narrative you’ll need to follow. This makes it much easier to find the right pacing for your story and to connect the various events that happen throughout your book. You don’t want to rush the narrative part or drag it out, as that will make the story tedious to read. The opposite is true for a good story — it needs to have a steady pace, which you can only achieve by following the right outline.

The Importance Of Good Character Development

I can’t stress how important it is to develop good characters that the reader cares about. The worse the characters are, the worse the story will be. Don’t underestimate the power of good characters either because they’ll make or break your story. It is, therefore, essential to create an environment where your characters can thrive. If you’re building a world inside your head and don’t know how to bring it to life, chances are your readers won’t be able to relate to your characters either. Worse yet, you’ll never be able to establish good character development if you don’t know how your story will end!

For example, let’s say you write a historical novel about the First Crusade. One of the major characters you’ll have to develop is Godfrey of Bouillon, a brave and devoted knight who took the cross in 1123 during the reign of King Stephen of England. You’ll need to decide whether or not Godfrey’s character will survive the First Crusade, as he was severely wounded during the battle. If you tell the reader that Godfrey survived and eventually returned home, it would be important to show the reader that Godfrey’s faith in God and devotion to duty was not shaken.

The way you present the information about Godfrey’s character development will affect how sympathetic the reader will become to his plight. If you tell the reader that Godfrey is a self-centered and arrogant man who only cares about himself, the reader will not be able to relate to him as they would with a character like this:

  • A man dedicated to his beliefs and principles even in the face of certain death
  • Brave and protective towards those around him
  • Loyal to his friends and followers
  • A leader who knows when to take a stand and when to fall back

If you tell the reader that Godfrey was a self-centered egotist who did not care about anyone but himself, you’ll establish an environment where the reader feels comfortable enough to identify with and care about Godfrey’s character. This is especially important in a work of historical fiction, as the author is basically creating a character in order to tell a story.

The Importance Of Setting

Setting is extremely important in a novel because it establishes the atmosphere and the tone you’d like to achieve. For example, if you’re writing about a medieval novel, you’ll want to make sure that the setting is medieval enough without being too accurate. You don’t want to fall into the trap of painting too realistic a picture of the era because then the novel won’t come across as fantasy anymore but as reality.

It’s important to note that while you’re setting the scene, you don’t have to make it medieval exactly. You can give it a more modern twist by adding or removing certain elements. For example, if the story takes place in a warzone, you may decide to remove items that belong to a more leisurely lifestyle. This way you can have a bit of fun with the setting while still maintaining the atmosphere you’re going for.

One of the most difficult things about writing an eBook is the research. Even if you’re writing a story that loosely revolves around historical events, you’ll still need to do a lot of research along the way. In order to write a convincing and interesting story, you’ll need to do a lot of research into the lives of real people who lived during those times. It’s important to remember that the more you know about the subject matter, the easier it will be to write a good story. If you’ve ever tried to write an entire novel in a month, you’ll know how difficult it can be to keep up with the research. It’s best to start small and work your way up.

Revising And Editing

Once you’ve finished writing, it’s time to go back and revise the work. You’ll probably find a good bit of content that you didn’t use and will need to decide what to do with it. You can either leave it in or you can choose to delete it. If you delete it, you’ll have to start again from the beginning and it may not be easy to find the same groove you were in when you first started writing.

Sometimes it’s best to leave content in that doesn’t fit within the timeframe of your story. If it does, it can serve as an important piece of the author’s backstory that will add more depth to their character. Sometimes it’s best to cut content you don’t need in order to make the story more coherent and understandable. Remember: content is king! You want your reader to understand what’s going on and you want it to be as concise and entertaining as possible.
