Step 1: Select your platform
There are many ways to publish an ebook. You can use any online tool to build and write your book. You can create an Amazon account and use their intuitive tools to publish and market your book. Or, you can use a free service like Smashwords to publish your book. No matter which tool you choose, you need to decide on one.
While there are many benefits to publishing an ebook, not all platforms are created equal. You should use the right tool for the right purpose. For example, if you are looking to build a digital library of ebooks, you should use Amazon’s Kindle platform. If you are more of an Amazon Indie reader, you should consider using their independent publishing tool.
Step 2: Build your Amazon account
If you decide to go with Amazon as your ebook publishing platform, the first thing you will need to do is to set up your Amazon account. To do this, visit https://www.amazon.com/gp/account and click on the ‘Sign up’ button. You will then need to enter your email address and create a password.
After you create your account, you will be asked to verify your email address. You can do this by clicking on the ‘Confirm’ button in your email or by visiting https://www.amazon.com/gp/help/customer/display.html?nodeId=201191890 and entering your email address there. You will then need to enter a ‘Confirmation Code’ that is sent to you via email.
Once you confirm your email address, you will be taken to the dashboard. From here you can click on the ‘Create an author profile’ button to start creating your author profile. Your author profile will allow you to add metadata to your book, such as a cover photo, summary, or keywords. You can decide whether or not to upload samples of your work.
Step 3: Write and format your ebook
The next step is to write and format your ebook. There are many tools that can help you with this process. Google Docs and Microsoft Word are two of the most popular tools. You can use any text editor to build your ebook. You can even use your favorite authoring tool to build your book directly in to an ebook format.
When you are creating your ebook, you will need to decide on a cover for your book. You can use any image-editing software, such as Canva, to help you design a cover for your book. Once you have your cover designed, you can upload it to Canva and they will generate a high-quality PDF file for you to use. If you want to design your cover yourself, you can use any photograph graphic design software, such as Affinity Photo, to help you make your book cover design look the best it can.
Step 4: Build your back-end
Now that you have written and formatted your ebook, it’s time to build your back-end for your ebook. To do this, you can use any server or hosting service, such as Big Rock Stores or GoDaddy to host your website.
Depending on how big your library of books is, you might want to consider setting up a separate website for each book. To create a website for your books, you can use a free tool like WordPress to make your own blogging platform. Once you have your own WordPress blog, you can use the ‘WooCommerce’ plugin to build a small ecommerce store around your blog. If you are looking to sell and ship books worldwide, you can use an e-commerce tool like Shopify to set up your own online store.
Step 5: Distribute your ebook
This step simply involves getting your ebook into the hands of people who can enjoy it. There are several ways to do this, but the most popular way is to create a Kindle eBook and get it into the hands of Kindle users. To do this, you will need to visit https://kindle.amazon.com/gp/redirect.html and put in your email address and the email address of a Kindle user who you will lend the eBook to. You will then be taken to a page where you can select which book you want to ‘lend’ to the Kindle user. Once the Kindle user has downloaded your eBook onto their device, you can follow the prompts to configure the eBook to be used with their Kindle.
Depending on how much content you have, you might want to consider creating a series of ebooks for your readers. With a series of ebooks, you can add more value to your content by offering your readers additional content for free. For example, you can add an ebook each month that serves as a ‘signature series’ for your readers. Or, you can create an ‘Annual Bestseller’ where you give your readers the best of your work over the last year. On the downside, you will have to deal with piracy, as many people will try to gain access to your work illegally.
Step 6: Enjoy your great new book!
Once you have followed the steps above and published your first ebook, you can finally enjoy your great new book. To do this, you will need to find a place for it on your bookshelves. This is where the fun begins…
As you may imagine, there are a variety of issues that you need to consider when choosing where to put your book on your bookshelf. For example, do you want your book to be displayed face-outward or face-inward? What about the type of lighting in your house? What about your personal space? Are you on the search for a ‘reading nook’ or do you just want to put your book on your coffee table? These are all important questions to ask yourself before putting your book down on your bookshelf. Once you have answered these questions, you can finally put your book down and enjoy your great new creation!
