Learn Urdu Writing Fast – It’s Simple

Learning a new language is not an easy feat. It takes time, patience, and practice. However, there are some words and phrases that you can learn very quickly and easily that will help you get by in Urdu. Here are some of the most useful phrases and words that you can learn to use right away.

Hello/Hi/How are you?

You will hear this frequently in everyday life when greeting other people or talking to them on the phone. However, you will not always need to use it when talking to someone you know well. You can ask them how they are and if they are fine without needing to ask them in English first. This is one of the simplest things to learn, but it can be quite useful. You will feel that your Urdu is much better after only a few weeks of learning these few words and phrases. There are similar phrases in many other languages as well.

Please/Thank you/Sorry

These three words are very important in life. You will use them frequently when asking someone for something or thanking them for something. However, you will not always need to use them in that way. When someone says “please” or “thank you” in English, they are usually asking for something or saying something that they feel is nice. In other words, people use these words to show politeness. While you are not expected to learn how to be polite in Urdu, you will find it much easier to use these words in everyday life if you try. For example, if you see a chair that you like in a store, but you do not have the money to buy it, you can say “please” instead of “thank you” and the shop owner will probably help you out. You will not feel that you are being too much of a nuisance, as you can simply say “thank you” or “please” when the chair is next to you. This does not mean that you have to become insolent or rude, but it will be easier for you to behave in a polite manner if you practice using these words sometimes.

How much does this cost?

This is probably the most important question you will learn how to ask people. When you learn that people in general do not like being bothered with small talk, getting to the point quickly is what they often want. So, you will learn to ask how much something costs by putting the phrase, “how much does this cost,” in front of the item that you are inquiring about. For example, if you want to know the price of a movie, you can say, “how much does this cost?” followed by the name of the movie. However, you should learn to ask this question in a way that is not too much of a bother. For instance, if you want to know how much a certain brand of shoes costs, you can say, “how much does this cost?” followed by the name of the shoe. The person that you are asking will not feel like they are being pestered with too much unnecessary information, because you are getting to the point quickly, and they will appreciate it.

Do you have something that is similar?

Before going into too much detail about the phrases and words you need to know, let’s discuss how this question is asked. Say you want to buy a dress that is similar to the one that you have seen on a certain fashion blogger. When you want to ask this question about a product or a service, you can either say the name of the product or service or you can ask the question with an “or” in between the two. For example, “do you have something that is similar to this?” When asking this question, take into consideration that the person that you are asking may not have the item in stock, so you will need to wait. Depending on how fast you need to get the item, you can either ask when the item is in stock or you can ask someone to email you when it comes in. If you want to be polite, you can always say, “would you mind emailing me when it comes in?” This is a question that you will hear often in every day life, but it can be quite useful to know when asking for similar items.

How do you order?

In case you are wondering, people in South Asia order food using different methods. Some use “numbers” while others write out their orders using Roman numerals. You will learn to ask how you want your food to be served by saying “how do you order?” If you do not know how to order, just follow these simple steps:

  • Speak slowly and clearly
  • Make sure that you are not using colloquial words
  • Count up from zero
  • Start with the digit 1
  • Repeat as necessary

You will find that ordering food using this method is quite easy once you get the hang of it. Just make sure that you are not using words that you have not learned in school or that you do not know how to spell! This method will also make sure that your order is taken care of correctly; otherwise, you may find that you are served something that is incorrect or something that does not match what you ordered. So, make sure that you are learning how to order correctly from the very beginning!

How much does it weigh?

The reason why you are not supposed to put “do you have” before the question is because people often want to know the weight of an item before buying it or asking a question about it. When you want to ask how much something weighs, you can either say the weight or you can ask them to guess. However, most people will find it easier to tell you the exact amount. Say you want to know the weight of a piece of luggage – you can ask them to guess or you can tell them the weight. However, if you want to be professional, you can say, “how much does this weigh?” followed by the item’s weight.

As you may expect, questions about the price and the weight of an item are quite common. However, there are a few phrases and words that you can learn that will help you get by in everyday life without needing to use a translator. When you can use these phrases and words easily, you will feel that learning a new language has been worth it. You may feel that using a little Urdu can help you get by in English speaking countries.
