How to Get Inspired for Creative Writing

There is nothing more inspiring to me than to watch someone work creatively – whether it’s a painter, writer, musician, or someone else. When you see the world through fresh eyes, the possibilities for inspiration are endless. For writers, this can mean anything from watching YouTube Poetry Videos to reading a book or listening to a podcast. It could even be a movie or a play – anything that has an interesting story to tell. However, with so many possibilities, how can you possibly choose where and how to get inspired?

In today’s world, artists and writers are often seen as parallel careers, with individuals often considering themselves to be one or the other. While this may be true in some cases, I believe that the two are actually extremely intertwined. After all, wouldn’t it be amazing if every story could become a piece of art? Thus, how can you ever truly separate the two? In a way, this is what led me to write this guide. I want to open up the conversation about creative writing and inspire you to consider it as a path for personal growth. Why? Well, as I mentioned above, watching someone work creatively is one of the things that always gets my creative juices flowing. However, it’s not only about watching and being inspired – it’s about joining the conversation as well. Once you’ve written something, whether it’s a short story, a play, or a novel – it’s always an option to discuss it with others. This, in turn, could lead to new ideas and connections. Thus, by participating in creative writing forums and groups, you’re sure to feel inspired and have new ideas to bring to your writing.

The Importance Of Community

The internet can be a great tool for writers. There are numerous places where you can discuss writing, get feedback, and find inspiration. However, one of the most important things that the internet can’t provide is community. For those of you who love to write, but don’t always have the time, it’s important to join a writing club or group. As the name would suggest, these are places where you can share your writing with others and get feedback. The internet can also be a great source of inspiration for writers. YouTube is full of amazing poets, musicians, and other individuals who’ve uploaded videos about their creative process (most notably, Taylor Swift, who even made a whole album about it: Reputation). When you have access to this kind of wealth of inspiration, it’s easy to see why one could become a creative writing aficionado and never look back. However, one of the things that makes writing so beautiful is that it’s an inherently personal art. It’s not about what you see when you open up a novel or a play – it’s about what’s inside the head of the author when they wrote it. Thus, it’s important to meet other people who’ve gone through the same process as you have. It’s not only about getting feedback and discussing your work, but it’s also about having someone to share your experiences with. This is why, even when you’re not writing, it’s important to keep your ear to the ground and your eyes open for inspiration. You never know when a conversation with someone who’s gone through a similar experience could open up a whole new world of ideas and possibility.

Get Inspired By Anything!

As I mentioned above, getting inspired for creative writing can come from anywhere. There are simply too many wonderful things in this world to choose from. The only thing you have to do is sit down and put yourself in the right mindset. When you do, you’ll see the world through a whole new lens and have ideas galore. Even if you don’t consider yourself a creative person, there’s probably something that you can get inspired by. It’s important to find what works best for you, whether this is a poem, a short story, or a novel – and not to be afraid to try new things. After all, this is what makes writing such a beautiful art form. It’s about having the courage to be yourself and express all of the things that you feel inside. This may mean that your writing doesn’t always fit in with what’s popular, but that doesn’t matter. As long as you have something to say, you can be sure that there will be people who want to hear it.

Make It A Point To Be Creative

Writing is not just about putting words on a page. It’s about being creative with the way you present information in a way that someone else will find interesting, informative, or even inspiring. In order to do this, you have to make it a point to be creative every day. Whether this means taking a walk, riding your bike, or even just sitting down with a notebook and a pen, it’s important to remember to be creative regularly. You never know when inspiration could strike!

Join A Society Of Authors

Authors are people, too! Many of them can get pretty busy with their schedules, but there are many ways that they can help you get your work out into the world. One of the best things that an author can do for you is to sign your book. Additionally, many authors will be more than happy to give you some feedback on your work and help you find the errors that it’s likely to contain. Finally, joining a society of authors can also do wonders for your motivation. With other writers around you that you can connect with and compare notes with, it would be easy to see why this path might be appealing.

Watch Movies

For writers, movies can be a goldmine of ideas. Whether you see a film about art, music, fashion, or anything else, there will usually be some fantastic scenes that you can steal for your next project. Many writers will even namecheck specific scenes that they’ve turned to in the past. There’s simply no other way to put it – movies can be an incredible source of inspiration for writers!

To take advantage of this, it’s important to be selective about which films you watch. Unless you’re looking for a specific scene, it’s usually a good idea to avoid films that have become classics (for example, Casablanca, Jules And Jim, or The Godfather). On the other hand, modern films (such as Mad Max: Fury Road) can be a great source of ideas as well as inspiration for writers. In any case, you never know which scene in a movie could prove to be valuable. Once you’ve written a bit of prose, you can always look back at a film and see if any scenes stand out. This can be a great way to find inspiration for your next project.

Read Books

It might sound strange, but reading books is also a great way to get inspired. After all, what could be more inspiring than to look down at a beautifully designed page and see words dancing on it? Of course, this is something that I do almost every day, so it’s not like I need to convince you! For those of you who love to read, but don’t always have the time, reading a book can be a fantastic way to get inspired. You would not believe how many times my wife’s book club has inspired me to write. It might be tempting to grab a quick read and head to the movies, but there are too many wonderful things that a book can do for you to not choose it as a source of inspiration. Additionally, many a writer’s greatest works have come from their love for a particular novel or short story – Ernest Hemmingway’s The Sun Also Rises was inspired by F. Scott Fitzgerald’s The Great Gatsby and William Wordsworth’s The Prelude was inspired by John Keats’ The Grecian Urn.

Listen To Music

Speaking of Hemmingway, one of the most unique and fascinating individuals that he influenced was composer Carl Zermatt. Zermatt was a close friend of the writer and greatly admired his style. One of the ways that Zermatt emulated Hemmingway was via his music. For those of you who enjoy listening to music, whether it’s classical or jazz, you might want to consider this as a way of getting inspired as well. There are numerous podcasts and blogs out there that can bring jazz, classical, and other types of music to your fingertips. This can be a wonderful way to discover new things as well as connect with musicians from all over the world. Many of them are truly amazing talents and can help you get inspired by even the most common of melodies.
