A while back, I read a blog post that blew my mind. It was about a woman who had written a novel and somehow found the time to also be a successful indie ebook publisher. The blog post gave lots of great tips on how to become an indie ebook publisher and how to write a novel. I’d never really thought about writing an ebook, but after reading that post, I knew exactly what would be missing from my writing toolkit if I didn’t write one. So I did. I wrote Fifty Shades of Grey, which is now considered to be one of the bestselling indie ebook series of all time. It was an easy decision once I knew what my novel was missing. In fact, after I wrote the first draft, I didn’t put it down for a month and a half. When I finally did, I had completed a full first draft in just 15 months.
The Benefits of An Ebook
An ebook is simply a digital version of a book that can be read on your computer or smartphone. eReaders, like e-books, are also known as digitial readers, eBook readers, or simply e-readers. eReaders look like regular books and can be used just like them. However, e-books aren’t bound by any rules as to what subjects they can be used for, nor are they limited to one narrative style. This means that content can look completely different from one author to the next, which adds an extra layer of value to e-books as a reading experience.
e-books have several advantages over traditional books, not the least of which is that they’re much easier to write and much faster to put together. Having an editor isn’t necessarily required when writing an e-book, as you can easily go through the whole process yourself and then publish the final product. This, of course, reduces the need for a lot of errors that typically appear in professionally published works. In addition, you don’t necessarily need a large audience to make money online. In fact, if you choose to go this route, you can establish yourself as an indie publisher and avoid most of the pitfalls that come with large-scale publicizing.
The Downside of An Ebook
Now, there are disadvantages to ebooks as well, the least of which is that they’re basically digital copies of physical books. This means that as good as an e-reader is, it still has the potential to malfunction. In addition, some people prefer reading from a physical book rather than from a screen, so having a physical copy doesn’t offer the same level of experience as it does with a digital version. Also, e-books can’t be stored in the same way that physical books can. This means that if you decide to write an e-book, you’re stuck with whatever storage space you have available on your device. Whether it’s a hard drive, a memory card, or even the device’s internal storage, you need to make sure you have enough room for the thing.
With that being said, e-books have several advantages over traditional books, and for the most part, they provide a better reading experience, both for individuals and for businesses. With e-books, you get the bonus of being able to reread and refer back to content at any time. In the case of an individual, this means that you can carry the entire catalog with you wherever you go. In the case of a business, it means you can give a copy of your ebook to anyone who wants to read it and then refer back to it for content whenever you need it.
Get Inspiration From Everywhere
What I love about this particular blog post is that even though it was written years ago, the writer gives great tips on how to write a novel that will appeal to readers today. One of the things she suggests is that you read everything you can get your hands on. Not only will this increase your vocabulary, which will, in turn, make your writing more interesting, but it also shows that you’re willing to learn and grow as a writer. This is a quality that will surely come in handy down the road.
