How to Format a Writing Sample for a Job Application

The SAT and ACT are the two most popular college entrance exams. More than 12 million students take them every year. Many high school students and even some middle school students take these exams. The fact that they are so popular means one thing: employers are looking for candidates who can express themselves in writing. Sounds obvious, but a lot of students don’t write much because they think it’s not needed. They assume that if they can speak English, then they won’t need to write much for their college application.

Not true! In fact, it’s quite the opposite. A lot of employers don’t mind whether or not you can speak English, but they do mind whether or not you can write well. Your writing sample is your chance to prove to them that you can write well. Many students don’t prepare for this chance and don’t do very well because of it. The good news is that it’s not too late! You can still improve your writing skills in order to better format your writing sample before you send it in. This is especially beneficial if you’re applying for jobs that require a lot of writing.
