You are at Camp Half-Poke, a small lakeside retreat in New York State. The air is crystal-clear, the sun is high in the sky, and you have just returned from a refreshing swim in the lake. What more could you want?
Well, how about some hot weather writing prompts? Everyone needs a break from the humdrum of daily life, and here you have the perfect opportunity to let your imagination run wild. What if I told you that you could write an entire novel, featuring some of the most unforgettable characters you could imagine, while lounging by the fireplace in a comfortable armchair? What if I told you that you could make the entire experience feel as real as possible?
Creative writing can be a fun way to explore different themes and moods. Plus, it’s a great way to decompress from all that real life busy-ness. So go ahead and get writing!
The Fireplace
Although you are more than three quarters of the way through your Camp Half-Poke vacation, it still feels as fresh as the first day you arrived. The moment you stepped off the bus and onto the sandy beach, you couldn’t help but feel grateful for the stunning views of the lake and the spectacular sunsets that greet the evening in this part of New York State. Now, as you are relaxing by the fire, it seems like a lifetime since you last set foot in the bustling city. You are finally free to enjoy the great outdoors and the breathtaking views from the lake. It is a glorious day, and you feel no need to rush.
To best replicate this wonderful feeling, build a small bonfire in the outdoors. It doesn’t have to be big; a simple campfire will do just fine. When the sun begins to set and the air becomes chilly, gather your things and go inside. Don’t leave your cozy spot by the fire until you absolutely have to – the idea is to unwind, not to rush.
The Lake
You had been feeling a little distant from the water lately; the thought of getting in that warm bath always makes you feel a little better. But something about seeing that beautiful sun glinting on the water, reflecting off the clouds and hitting the surface with that breathtaking explosion of color, brings you right back. The lake is still as magnificent as the day you arrived. The water is clear as glass, and with that wonderful sunlight beaming down, it’s easy to see why they call this part of New York State “the jewel of the great lakes.” It doesn’t get any better than this.
So, go ahead and take a dip! After all, warm water is good for you, and it’s a great way to relax. And if you’re really feeling adventurous, go for a swim with the alligators! (Just kidding.) But seriously, if you’ve never been in a swimming pool and been scared of getting in the water, this is the perfect opportunity to overcome your fears. There are no monsters underneath the water except for fish, and they’re not mean ones. So, if you want to try it out, go ahead!
The Lounge Chair
You did not get into the habit of relaxing in this way since arriving at Camp Half-Poke, but it feels so good to rest your weary head on a soft, comfortable chair and put your feet up on a warm floor. The wood is worn, but it’s still comfortable, and you almost feel like you’re in some sort of retreat. The sun goes down, the fire crackles, and all you hear is the sound of dripping water and wind chimes gently clacking together in the breeze. Sometimes it’s just what the doctor ordered.
What is it about this chair and the feeling of peace and relaxation that it engenders? You can’t put your feet up on a normal chair without it feeling like a different kind of creature. It’s like putting your feet on a praying mantis or an anaconda. You don’t sit in a normal chair without feeling a little strange. So, make sure you put your feet up on this chair when you’re writing, reading, or relaxing. It’s like…magic. The only thing that makes it better is when you sit down in it, there’s no one else in the room. So, when there’s no one around, you can pretend like it’s just the two of you, relaxing together. (I guess that could be a story idea.)
The Sun
The rising sun is one of the most beautiful sights in the whole world. The way it lights up everything, especially the sky, makes you feel like you could watch it forever. It’s like falling down a rabbit hole and waking up in an enchanted forest. You want to hug someone, you want to cry, you just want to feel something. The sun is a powerful entity in the sky, and it deserves your respect.
Also, it’s important to notice when the sun sets. This is when you get that spectacular view of the lake and all of its splendor. The colors are changing, reflecting off the water, and it looks as if the lake is sighing as it gets later and later into the sunset. You know you’re in paradise when the sunset is everything you could ever want or need. It really is the most beautiful sight, especially when it’s followed by a beautiful moonrise. A perfect day.
So, as you can see, there are many different ways you can describe hot weather. You can write about the glorious sun, you can describe the magic of watching the sunset, and you can even write about feeling safe around an alligator (just kidding). The point is, there’s a lot you can do with hot weather. The sky is the limit.
Even better, this week is Labor Day, so you have an entire month of free writing!
