I’ve always found it difficult to write fiction about people I know. The problem is that I don’t know how to describe them in creative writing. When I think of people, my mind immediately goes to photos of them. However, photos can’t always capture the essence of a person. In order to write a better story, you need to find a way to describe the person. Keep reading for some helpful tips on how to do that!
Find The Middle Ground
The best way to describe someone is by finding the middle ground between the extremes of them. You need to try and find a way to show the essence of who they are while not completely defining them. For example, you could say that Anna is an introvert who is socially awkward, but you could also say that she is an extrovert who is charming and witty. By saying that she is both an introvert and an extrovert, you can leave the reader with a clearer picture of what you mean.
Think Of The Biggest Differences
You have to be able to see the differences between people in order to be able to describe them. These are the things that make them unique. These could be the things that make them different from you or from someone else. The problem is that most people are bad at picking out these differences. You can help them by finding and communicating these differences to the reader. You can also use a few of these differences to create contrast with the main character in order to make the reader more engaged in the story.
For example, you could say that Annabelle is a highly intelligent individual who constantly thinks about ways to improve her writing while also being mindful of her finances. You don’t have to choose just one or the other, but you can certainly say that she is both an intelligent writer and a frugal one. This will make her stand out among other writers, since most people aren’t usually both at the same time.
Make It Easy
People don’t like thinking too much. When you’re trying to write something creative, it’s best to keep it as easy as possible. You should also make sure that the language you use is simple and easy to understand. You’re writing for an audience that isn’t familiar with your language yet, so you have to make it easy for them to understand. Remember: simple =/= easy, but easy =/= vague.
Take Your Time
People are never going to like you if you don’t like them either. It’s important to take your time when you’re writing fiction about people you know. You don’t want to rush it, because then you’ll end up with a sloppy story that doesn’t sound like you. You need to take your time to find the middle ground between the extremes of a person’s personality, or you’ll just end up with a generalization that doesn’t really mean anything. Remember: the story is only as good as you make it, and you only get one chance at a first impression.
Make It Personal
If you want to write something original, make sure that you put your own spin on it. You should do this by bringing something personal into it. For example, maybe you have a friend who is very similar to the main character. You can use this as a starting point for your story, and then take it in a different direction. You can make it a story about your friend and how they are very different from what the reader might expect. You can also say things about yourself that you’ve never said before in order to make it sound more like a personal story. The key is to find a way to make it sound unique and like no one else’s story but your own.
Find The Heart
When you’re writing something creative, it’s important to find the heart of the matter. This is where you’ll put all the aspects of the story that make it original. The best way to find the heart is to think about the character’s goals and intentions. These are the things that will make up the core of the story. It might be something as simple as wanting to feel accepted by others, or it might be something more complex such as wanting to inspire people through their words. Whatever it is, it’s what the character wants and it’s what will guide your choices in terms of plot and setting. Keep in mind that you’re only as original as you want to be. There are no limits to what you can write other than the limits of your own imagination.
