How Many Credits Is Creative Writing Highschool?

Are you looking to further your education? Creative writing is a popular choice among students, as it allows them to experiment with different genres and styles. However, achieving a high GPA in creative writing isn’t as easy as it seems. Here’s how many credits Creative Writing Highschool should really be worth.

The Basics

In order to graduate from a highschool with a creative writing program, you’ll need to meet the following criteria:

  • enrolled in high school
  • a GPA above 3.0
  • achieved credits in the required courses (English, Creative Writing, etc)
  • passed the required tests

English

If you happen to be taking an English course, you’ll need to make sure that you’re actually producing high-quality work. In order to do this, you’ll need to ensure that you’re attending classes regularly and that you’re taking the time to study for your exams. As mentioned by the English Institute, a highschool English course should really only be worth 12 credits. A C or better in English is what you’re looking for. Remember: the courses below don’t count as English credits.

General Studies

In addition to English, you’ll also need to have taken a course in General Studies. Unlike English, General Studies is a required course for all highschool students and is worth 15 credits. It covers areas such as Math, Science, Social Studies, and Language. General Studies courses are designed to give students a comprehensive view of the world around them. A C or better in General Studies is what you’re looking for.

Creative Writing

Creative Writing is one of the most popular electives among students, due to the fact that it provides them with a chance to write in a more personalized way. Some parents may even be surprised to learn that their child is taking a creative writing course, as it isn’t considered an ‘academic’ course. Nonetheless, as is the case with most elective courses, the level of quality required of the student is quite high, as you’ll be representing the school in public. Taking a creative writing course shouldn’t be something that’s considered a ‘gift’ to the student, as it’s simply about honing your craft and learning to write better. Creative writing is often taught in highschools as an elective course, and it is usually worth between 3 and 15 credits. It is highly recommended that you take a class with a focus on short stories or poems, as this will help you to develop your craft.

Total Credits
