Ways to make a difference
It may surprise you to discover that there are many children and families that are in need in Seattle's most affluent neighborhoods, including the Eastside. Redmond may be home for the world's richest American, yet statistics show that nearly 50% of children attending school in Redmond live in poverty and are eligible for the free and reduced lunch program. More people seem to be aware of the needs of children in Africa than in the areas they live. Therefore, it is our aim at Heavensfield to link people who want to give back to the community to those in need.
Heavensfield has teamed up with Share . Touch . Inspire, a 501(c)3 organization providing self-care and need based services to good families that have fallen on hard times in the Seattle area.
Here are some of the local Eastside needs:
- Gas Cards: There are plenty of families who cannot attend counseling sessions because they don't have enough gas to make it to their appointment. Likewise, families have trouble coming up with money to pay for gas to get to doctors appointments, grocery shopping, and even to their places of employment.
- Grocery Store Gift Cards: Some families have to choose between diapers for their children or food to eat. Many children don't have backpacks, or school supplies. Thus, grocery store, drug store, or other retail cards are the perfect way to help a family in need.
- Car Repair Gift Certificates: Ok, now this is one that comes up time and time again. People who are barely surviving on a fixed income generally do not have the resources to repair a broken vehicle.
If you'd like to provide a service to a family in need, please contact Heavensfield for more information.
